While I’m planning for my next film project that will start filming on the 11th of May, Pauline and I are collaborating to create a solo specifically for our beloved friend, Zoë. There will be a film portion as part of the installation. I’m still researching and playing with how I want the film to look. So I started to experiment a bit.

It’s far from how the final product will turn out. We are generating movements from personal memories and journal entries from her childhood. It will be a long process but it has been very rewarding journey.

I thought I would share a bit of it from what we had during our rehearsal. She was not dressed for filming and so… Zoë, I’m sorry for posting this. ;)

These days ARTS is probably the last thing that the government would fund, which leads to inaccessibility for the general public to see arts. Arts has becoming to expensive. We left arts education out of our educational system and that led to so many people who don’t “get”/understand arts.

Again, watching this news clip… arts has been a great way to ease people with Alzheimer. These people in this video had some previous appreciation for the arts that ties their memories along with some of the arts they have viewed and enjoyed in their earlier lives. In America alone, there’re more than 5 million people with this devastating disease. And the number is likely to increase by a lot in the next 10 years.

With the lack of art appreciation in our society these days, with barely any exposure and accessibility to quality arts…. do you think the alzheimer patients in 10 years from now will get the same benefit from these patients?

Government should really subsidize the arts to make it cheaper for the public to see and to make our children more educated in arts as well. Artists in the past were always considered educated and smart, e.g. Leonardo Da Vinci…he was an artist but also an architect and scientist among others. Great musicians are often a great mathematicians, too. Nowadays, the public tend to think artists are dumb, uneducated people. Maybe we’ve been fed with too much MTV junk - what we refer as arts these days.
